In My Skin – movie review

In My Skin (2002 film)

Plot: A woman grows increasingly fascinated with her body after suffering a disfiguring accident.

Review: In My Skin (French: Dans ma peau) is a hidden nightmare of a movie. The movie was directed, written and played the main role of Esther by Marina de Van. In My Skin was on the cusp of the French extreme horror movie revolution. While it may have been limited a bit by budget there is no denying the vomit inducing body horror that would make David Cronenberg smile.

There is plenty of blood and sequences are played out in length that will leave you squirming and gasping for air. All of this is going on while still giving a chilling social commentary on women and body issues.

In My Skin will probably be found in the foreign section but it deserves its place as a hall of famer for horror. This is one of my favourite movies and I recommend this for fans of body horror and those uninitiated to it.

FYI:  For a double feature watch The Rejuvenator. Another body horror hidden gem from the late 80’s.

Genre: Body Horror, Disturbing, Psychological, Extreme, Gore

Rating: 5 Hammer Smashed Faces out of 5
